KNOXVILLE – Thursday, Sep. 8, tryouts will be held for any student interested in becoming a Johnson Royal cheerleader. The tryouts start at 6:30 p.m. in the old gym (location susceptible to change).

On Monday from 5-8 p.m. there will be an open gym for students interested in the tryouts. The open gym will be held in the main gym. The open gym is non-binding and a great way to meet new people. Both guys and girls are welcome, with any level of experience.

After tryouts are held, evening practices will be 2-3 times a week.

Amanda Newkirk, senior at Johnson, is the manager for the team.

In anticipation for the season, Newkirk said, “We plan on doing a lot of sharp, clean stunts!”

To start out, the team will appear at all of the home games of the Johnson boy’s basketball team.

“I want this to be a fun experience for everyone, but also want everyone to know that I am committed to the team,” Newkirk said.
