JUTN to host intern,volunteer fair

KNOXVILLE—Johnson will host an Intern/Volunteer Fair Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Philips-Welshimer gymnasium. This is an opportunity for students to gain connections for future careers.

“Professional networking, which would include volunteering and internships, involves using personal, professional, academic or familial contacts to assist with career exploration, or learn more about your field or another field you’d like to work in,” Michael Moore, director of Career Services, said. “It will help the quality of your decision making concerning your future.”

Students should dress business casual in order to make a good first impression. They should also be prepared to ask questions about the organization such as: what their mission is and what kind of employees, volunteers or interns they need.

It would also be beneficial to ask representatives how they got involved with the organization and their journey into their ministry/field of work.

Moore suggests that students should be ready to learn a lot of information about themselves as well.

“As you meet people and hear about organizations, think about what you would or would not be good at and enjoy doing,” Moore said.

The most important thing to remember while attending the fair is to make as many connections with as many people and organizations as possible.

Moore stated,  “Even though you may think now that you will never be involved with some of these places, you never know where, what, or who you will end up working with. Networking is important in the entirety of your professional career.”
